Support Groups
We offer two support groups in confidential settings to ensure the safety and protection of community members.
The caregiver support group for family, friends, and loved ones meets in person twice a month. The support group for individuals impacted by mental illness is a hybrid-model that meets every Monday. Once a month, this group has an outing or an in-person workshop facilitated by professional guest speakers, students, and MHE staff.
The MHE group facilitator may offer coping skills and mental health-related activities based on common conversational themes within the groups. Common skill topics include practicing gratitude, self-compassion, regulating emotions, and the dimensions of self-care.
We encourage making space for all group members to share their stories, listen to each other, and offer support. Our support groups are flexible. Regular attendance is not mandatory.
Why join a support group?
Support groups bring together people experiencing similar challenges to provide collective support. Sharing experiences, knowledge, and validation can reduce feelings of isolation and hopelessness. Members also often experience an increase in resilience, self-confidence, and a sense of understanding. Support groups are brave spaces. These are environments where people can express feelings, emotions, and anxieties that they may not feel safe discussing with others in their lives. Additionally, people entering these spaces recognize that they may hear things that make them uncomfortable, but they do their best to support the person sharing while sitting with their discomfort.
